Do you have paints, stains, glue or other chemicals sitting in your garage? If so, it is time to dispose of them responsibly. For additional information, click HERE or continue reading.
Dispose of these hazardous materials by delivering them to the Jefferson County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day event. This year, Jefferson County will provide a collection day at three locations including Bessemer, Gardendale and Irondale. The event is FREE but you must show proof of residency in Jefferson County by having your driver’s license with you to the event. Participants will bring items and remain in their vehicle with the windows rolled up. Items should be in the trunk, the bed of a truck or on a utility trailer. Volunteers will unload your items while you remain safely in your vehicle.
In additional to household chemicals, residents can also dispose of the following items:
- Household cooking oil and grease
- Light bulbs
- Paint (latex, oil, stains, solvents)
- Yard Chemicals (pesticides, fertilizers, herbicides).
- Prescription medications and other medications
- White goods (large appliances, grills, lawn mowers, etc.)
- Vehicle fluids (antifreeze, gasoline, oil)
For additional information about the event, contact the Jefferson County Stormwater Program at 205-325-8741. Thank you for your help in disposing of these chemicals properly and helping keep our rivers clean!
