Before you open that grill, be sure to follow these simple steps to practice safe grilling!
Grilling season has finally arrived! Homeowners are ready for good times with family and friends over some great barbecue cooked with a natural gas grill.
While natural gas grills allow owners to skip some of the seasonal preparation required by other types of grills, they do require some additional safety measures to be sure they are safe and ready for grilling season. It only takes a few minutes to check your gas grill for leaks before firing it up to be sure you are practicing safe grilling.
Step 1:
Inspect all hoses on the grill. Look for signs of brittleness, cracking, holes, abrasions, or tears. Be sure all the connection points are securely tightened and there are no bends or kinks in the hoses.
Step 2:
Confirm that all burners are turned off, including the side burner. Turn on the natural gas supply. Do NOT light burners during the safety inspection.
Step 3:
Create a soapy solution by mixing equal parts of water and liquid detergent. Using a brush or spray bottle, wet each gas fitting with the soapy solution. If bubbles begin to form, there is a leak. Turn off the gas supply, tighten the connection and retest with the soapy solution. If the bubbling continues after tightening the connection, do not operate the grill. Contact a professional service like Alabama Gaslight & Grill or a certified gas fitter to inspect your natural gas grill before using it again.
