Public Natural Gas Week (October 3-9)

There are about 1,300 natural gas utilities in the United States. Of these, approximately 1,000 are public natural gas utilities. Most public utilities are small and support a few hundred to a few thousand customers. Despite their small size, they have a huge impact on the communities they serve by providing clean, affordable and reliable natural gas.

Communities who choose to have a local public natural gas utility do so as a matter of practicality and economy. Our local leaders recognize the need to have access to reliable energy; and having a local public gas utility is the best way to do that. There are many other benefits to having a public gas utility in our community, for example:

  1. Public gas systems/utilities are not-for-profit. They are locally-controlled operations and ensure that rates remain competitive and affordable. This is especially reassuring as energy and fuel prices continue to rise and affect your family’s bottom line.
  2. Decisions regarding your energy needs are made locally, through a board of directors, instead of being made outside of the community.
  3. Public gas utilities are directly accountable to the citizens they serve.
  4. Finally, public gas systems play a valuable role in helping broaden our local tax base by helping local dollars stay at home.

It is our pleasure to serve the Trussville Gas & Water community and look forward to serving our 24,000 customers with safe and reliable natural gas.
