Trussville Gas and Water has recently been made aware of water testing kits being sent to some residents in our area. Several community members have contacted us with questions about the legitimacy of these kits.
Please be aware that these water testing kits are NOT from Trussville Gas and Water.
While the mailing of these test kits from an outside company are not illegal, the approach used by the companies behind them raises some concerns for us as your water provider. The fine print on the mailers notes that they are not affiliated with the EPA, or any city or county health department. Instead, these private businesses appear to use at-home test kits to gather personal information and market costly in-home water treatment systems to our community.
By submitting the kit and answering the included questions, residents may be unknowingly providing information such as name, address, water source, opinions on water quality and filtration systems. This data may later be used to contact the homeowner with claims of poor test results, followed by offers of a “free” in-home water analysis. These visits often lead to high-pressure sales tactics for expensive filtration or water softening systems.
With growing public interest in water quality and increasing marketing efforts from the water treatment industry, we encourage our customers to be cautious and well-informed.
Trussville Gas and Water would like to assure our customers that our drinking water meets or exceeds all state and federal regulatory standards. We are committed to providing safe, reliable water to our community every day.
